Escape The Flesh Interview

  1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
We started the band in Summer 2010 to play death/doom metal like Asphyx mixed with some d-beat parts. This formula seems to be working quite well since then.
To date we did 2 recordings – promo 2011 (two songs, DIY release) and split with March of the hordes (released by Lavadome productions and some other labels). Right now we are ready to new recording in March 2012.

  1. How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the split recording?
The sound is the biggest driving force behind the band – guitars is Boss HM-2 and bass is mix of bass/guitar overdrive and distortion pedals. We need the sound to be very organic and raw, it goes well with our playing style – simple, slow and crushing.

  1. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
There are some of my inspirations: Lovecrafts writings, horror movies, doom and darkness.

  1. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Our name is from lyrics of the song Morbid desire to burn by swedish death metal band Aeon. For me it has more personal meaning and it has something to do with my scorn to materialistic perception of the world.

  1. What are some of the best shows the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance.
We played with some of the best czech and slovak bands – Brutally deceased, Gattaca and Čad, so I can say that almost all our gigs were pleasure for us. Our stage performance is quite simple – four guys playing dirty death metal.

  1. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
We don´t have plans for tours becase we´re still very young band but on the other side our friends Balda (March of the hordes) and Sud (Marast music webzine, Radio R) organize a lot of gigs and have a lot of contacs to bands and other organizers so maybe they will help us in the future… Next month we are going to support Funebrarum / Undergang gig on Dead of Winter tour 2012 in Czech republic.

  1. What is your opinion of the other band March Of The Hordes that was on the split with your band.
March of the hordes are our great friends and we like their music very much. The split is some kind of expression of our friendship and share in musical tastes. Right now they are ready to record new songs for a split with czech d-beat machine Tomorrows hell. Be prepared for death metal /crust inferno.

  1. On a worldwide level how has your music been recieved by fans of death and doom metal?
There are a few review of our split and are generally positive.

  1. Are there any other side projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?
No, we all are pretty busy with ETF writing and rehearsing new songs.

  1. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
New songs are a bit faster and songwriting improved a lot. I incorporated more leads and made them more complex and interesting. New recording will be out in March so everyone could see.

  1. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
The biggest influence right now is probably Autopsy and crusty swedish death metal like Bombs of Hades. I listen mostly to dark and obscure death metal and stoner/doom. The new and interesting ones are Necrovorous – Funeral for the sane and Conan/Slomatics split.

  1. Outside of music what are some of your interests.
Besides music (listening, writing, practising, collecting CDs, shirts and vinyls) there is pretty usual stuff like beer, movies on one side and sport on the other, it depends on personal preferences of our members. We all also like buying new guitars, amps, stompboxes, cymbals and doublepedals, haha.

  1. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
I would like to thank all people and bands who helped us: Jan – Lavadome productions / Transcend 666 zine, Sud – Marast Music zine, Petr – Skála recording studio, March of the hordes, Žlababa Brutally Deceased/Heaving Earth, Schizmo Smashed face / Noostrak as well as all our fans, promoters who arranged us a gig, zines who did reviews etc, our friends and families for endless support.
