Plebian Grandstand Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

Plebeian Grandstand was formed in 2005, with the goal to create music that is aggressive, sincere and full of emotions. Our first EP was release in 2008, followed by an album in 2010. The album permitted us to tour in many countries of Europe and also Russia last summer. This year we will be releasing two split LPs, one with Bone Dance and Divider and the other LP with Cortez.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

Dark, aggressive, emotional, introspective.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Some of the lyrical topics are about life experiences, nature of human behaviour and their deviances
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

Plebeian Grandstand literally means "the arena of the plebeians", who were a part of Roman society in the ancient times. But you can also precieve the word "grandstand" as a forum where we could exchanges ideas and reflections.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Some of our best shows were in Moscow and St Petersberg, because Russian kids are really crazy and violent. They gave us a lot of adrenaline while we were playing. And one special show in Albi, the hometown of half the band. We performed the show in front of Albi's Cathare cathedral, which is very famous and beautiful.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

Yeah, we are planning to tour the UK and the east coast of the US during this summer.

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been recieved by fans of underground music?

That is hard to answer. We know our fans appreciate the music, but we are not well placed to really know that.
8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?

Indeed, Plebeian Grandstand is not the only band we play in. Raphael used to play in Khod Breaker, now he has his solo project called MC Monsieur. Cymon plays bass in Yoshi Tonku, Mc Monsieur. Adrien plays in Montreal on Fire and Noir Coeur. Simon plays also in Montreal on Fire, plays bass in Ancre and Sed Non Satiata.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

More blackened and more extreme.
10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are basically into alternative and extreme stuff but we are also listening to many different types of music like electronic music, mathrock, ambient, hip-hop, jazz.......
11. Does Occultism play a role in the music?

Not really, but those things are not unfamiliar to us.
12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Pussy.
13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

We would like to thank Matthias from Throatruiner Records and Fred from Basements Apes Industries, who have been supporting us throught-out the years. And thank You very much for the interview.
